Need a hint?

The image in key, there is a hint in the paragraph "Roman soliders...".

The shape of each shield is key to picking out a letter.

The number of sides of each shield tells you which letter to take from the roman soliders name.

The first shield has one side so take the letter G, the second shield has 4 sides so take the letter I and so on. This gives the letters "gieht". Rearranging these gives eight.

Need a hint?

The first clue can be found bottom right. There is also a clue in The Before Times.

The first letter of each sentence bottom right spells "Morse". The Before Times also refers to horticulture.

The article in the before times refers to dots being short marks and dashes being long marks. Look carefully for mentions of long and short in the main newsletter text.
