The strange note found at the excavation site can be used with the carving to reveal a message.

The strange note refers to directions but gives no starting point. There is only one place you can start on the grid where you do not go off it and it makes a message.

Just by looking at the first four directions the only starting points which do not take you off the grid are at T, 2 and B (top right). In exploring this more, starting at T is the only one that starts making sense (words). Following the full directions, starting at T gives "third word of power is HYMN".
